The Economic Community of West African States (Ecowas) has decided to send a military force to Bissau.
The regional bloc; during its extraordinary summit on Thursday in Accra, Ghana, took the decision to send a force to support the stabilization of Guinea Bissau.
This move is announced in a communiqué by the sub-regional organization. The security situation in Bissau, the nation’s capital, is volatile after the aborted coup against President Umaro Sissoco Embalo on February 1, 2022. A failed putsch in which the head of state said he lost several members of his security personnel.
Ecomig, the military intervention force of Ecowas, had left Guinea Bissau in September 2020, eight months after the swearing-in of President Emballo.
Besides, Ecowas has decided to maintain the Mission of Ecomig in its police and military components to consolidate peace in The Gambia.
