The Congolese Football Federation (FECOFOOT) has been suspended by FIFA “until further notice” due to government interference in the running of the sport.
This decision deprives the Red Devils of their upcoming qualifying matches for the 2026 World Cup.
The suspension follows the establishment of an ad hoc committee by the Minister of Sports, Hugues Ngouelondele, in September 2024, to lead FECOFOOT.
FIFA, in agreement with the Confederation of African Football, considered that this was a violation of its statutes.
“FECOFOOT is suspended with immediate effect due to interference by third parties in the affairs of the federation,” the world football governing body said, specifying that this decision follows two joint FIFA/CAF missions to Brazzaville.
FIFA has not specified the conditions for reestablishing the Congolese federation.
Engaged in the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, Congo features in Group F dominated by
Morocco and could see its campaign seriously compromised.
