The two politicians are recognized as key opponents to the regime of Umaro Sissoco Embaló.
The meeting took place amid discussions among Pereira, Camara, and Nuno Nabiam regarding strategies to confront Embaló’s administration. Following the meeting, Pereira clarified that while there had been speculation concerning a potential alliance with Madem G-15, the topic was not addressed during their discussions.
Pereira, who served as President of the National Assembly before it was dissolved by President Embaló in December 2023, noted that the primary goal of the meeting was to coordinate political efforts and explore common strategies to enhance the country’s situation. He emphasized that both parties are dedicated to collaborating on significant national issues without formalizing a political alliance at this time.
Addressing recent accusations made by the President regarding the return of €6 billion from the Banque Centre de l’Aide, Pereira categorically denied these claims. He asserted that he has never received such a sum and suggested that any inquiries about the matter should be directed to the President himself. He dismissed the accusations as unfounded and expressed indifference toward the allegations.
Pereira also discussed the PAIGC’s involvement in the upcoming parliamentary elections, highlighting that the party’s Central Committee had directed the Permanent Commission to evaluate the conditions for participation. A pivotal meeting of this Commission is set for tomorrow, which will help determine the party’s final stance on its involvement in the elections.
