Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio presided over the oath-taking ceremony for Mrs. Tuma Adama Gento Kamara, who has assumed her role as a member of the Judicial and Legal Service Commission.
The ceremony, held at State House, was conducted in accordance with section 140(1)(d) of the Constitution of Sierra Leone, 1991, which mandates the appointment of a practicing Counsel with at least ten years of experience, nominated by the Sierra Leone Bar Association, to the Commission.
Secretary to the President, Dr. Emmanuel Gaima, outlined the constitutional basis for the appointment, while Mrs. Gento Kamara took and subscribed to the oath of office before President Bio.
In her address, Mrs. Gento Kamara expressed gratitude and a strong sense of duty, emphasizing her commitment to upholding justice with integrity, fairness, and truth. She pledged to ensure judicial appointments are based on merit, legal processes are transparent, and all citizens have equal access to justice.
President Bio congratulated Mrs. Kamara and acknowledged the significance of her new responsibilities. He stressed the importance of the judiciary in maintaining societal order and urged her to fulfill her commitments. He also called on the broader judiciary to dispense justice fairly and promptly.
Mrs. Tuma Adama Gento Kamara succeeds Madam Michaela B.E. Swallow, who has been appointed Deputy Permanent Representative for Legal Affairs at the Sierra Leone Permanent Mission to the United Nations.
