Guinea’s Ministry of Fisheries and Maritime Economy is accelerating its digital transformation with the implementation of the Integrated Fisheries and Maritime Economy Management System (SIGPEM), a platform designed to simplify administrative procedures, reduce processing times, and improve traceability in the sector.
The Minister of Fisheries and Maritime Economy, Fatima Camara, met with the Karity team to review the progress of this digital solution, presented as a lever for modernizing the administration of the fisheries sector.
The first SIGPEM modules, dedicated in particular to vessel registration and the issuance of fishing licenses, are currently in the testing phase. Their gradual deployment should allow for the digitisation of several procedures that still require traditional administrative processes.
Accessible from a phone, tablet, or computer, the platform is designed to meet the needs of the various stakeholders in the sector, including shipowners, fish wholesalers, and other professionals involved in the fisheries value chain.
Beyond simplifying formalities, the SIGPEM (Integrated System for the Management of Maritime Fisheries and Aquaculture) is intended to strengthen the transparency and traceability of fishing activities.
Centralising data on vessels, permits, and licenses could facilitate administrative monitoring and
improve the availability of information necessary for managing the sector.
This digitalisation comes at a time when maritime administrations are being called upon to modernize their control and management tools in response to the challenges related to preserving fish stocks, combating illegal practices, and improving sector governance.
For the ministry, the objective is also to bring the administration closer to users by offering more accessible and faster services.
However, the success of the SIGPEM will depend on its adoption by professionals, the reliability of the integrated data, and the security of the information exchanged.
With this platform, the Ministry of Fisheries and Maritime Economy intends to take a new step in the transformation of its services, with the ambition of building a more accessible, transparent, efficient administration adapted to the realities of the Guinean maritime sector.
