The Gambia Police Force say they are investigating another armed robbery incident in the capital on Saturday.
According to police report two men on a BMW car forced their way into ElHella shop, a provision store along Hegan Street, Banjul around 09:08 am on Saturday, brandishing a gun.
The report indicated that one of the suspects wore a face mask while the other was unmasked.
”CCTV footage shows the suspects entering the shop, brandishing a pistol, and threatening those inside before making away with D1,245,000.00 and 1,650,000.00 CFA. They fled the scene in the same vehicle” said the police in a public statement.
The police have requested cooperation from the Gambian public to help identify the suspects and their vehicle, an ash-coloured vehicle with no number plate.
This is the latest in a spate of robbery incidents targeting banks and foreign exchange bureaus which has caused public concern about growing insecurity in the country.
Last month three armed men burst into the main banking hall at the Access Bank in Brusubi, a new urban settlement located 22km outside the capital.
A CCTV footage showed all three men carrying pistols, although only one of them pulled out a shotgun, forcing the bank’s security officers to flee.
Although the armed robbers fired no shots and no injuries were reported in that incident the robbers collected an unknown amount of money from the teller’s counter before making their escape in a Benz V-Boot vehicle without a number plate.
Just hours later the police reported another robbery incident in Kunkujang Badjie Estate, when a Western Union money outlet was attacked by three men, one armed with a pistol.
Holding the employee at gunpoint, the robbers tied him before proceeding to grab stacks of Dalasi note amounting to D77,275 and fled.
