The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has declared a nationwide strike over what they termed untold pressure and hardship brought on to teachers by the newly introduced human resource management information system (HRMIS).
According to NAGRAT President, Angel Carbonu, the HRMIS acquired by the Public Services Commission (PSC), has created a lot of setbacks for teachers, thereby affecting their work negatively.
This has culminated in outstanding salary arrears, delays in promotion, additional responsibility allowance, delays in receiving promotion letters, inability to seek transfer, bringing untold pressure on teachers.
Speaking in Accra on Thursday to declare the strike action, he said: “We have complained about the system to no avail. Now teachers have also begun working for long hours.”
Mr. Carbonu therefore called on all teachers to lay down their tools and stay out of their schools until further notice.
“For those who are yet to reopen, stay away from the school premises even when they reopen,” he added.
Mr. Carbonu expressed the hope that the PSC will remove the obstacles it has placed on the path of Ghana Education Service (GES) to help it function and ease the unnecessary pressure on teachers.
