The annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank slated for the Moroccan city of Marrakech next October have been moved to 2023 due to uncertainties related to the evolution of the coronavirus pandemic, the Bretton Woods institutions announced on Monday.
The meetings of this year will therefore take place in Washington in October, said a joint statement by the two institutions.
It said the postponement of the Marrakech meeting to 2023 was made after consultations with the Moroccan government.
It is the second postponement of the meetings slated for Morocco by the IMF and the World Bank.
The two institutions had initially planned to hold the 2021 meetings in the kingdom, before the pandemic botched their plans.
The annual meetings are usually held for two consecutive years at the headquarters of the World Bank and the IMF in Washington, then in a member country every three years.
It is still unclear what format will be adopted at the spring meeting next April.
“We hope to be able to hold hybrid meetings, but the exact format will depend on the evolution of health and travel conditions,” the World Bank and IMF say.
