APA-Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire) Côte d’Ivoire’s National Assembly Speaker, Adama Bictogo, met the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Belgium, Eliane Tillieux, in Brussels on Thursday 25 January 2024.
This high-level meeting was the first of a three-day friendship and working visit to Brussels by the Ivorian National Assembly Speaker, Adama Bictogo, at the head of a delegation of Ivorian MPs.
Mr. Bictogo took the opportunity to congratulate Belgium, which currently holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
He will also discuss bilateral issues with Mrs. Eliane Tillieux.
Adama Bictogo expressed his delight at the excellent relations between Belgium and Côte d’Ivoire. This strong bond was demonstrated by President Alassane Ouattara’s official visit to Belgium in 2011 and that of Her Royal Highness Princess Astrid to Abidjan in 2017.
Adama Bictogo and Eliane Tillieux called for a reorientation of the economic and trade partnership between Belgium and Côte d’Ivoire.
In a world facing numerous challenges, the two personalities exchanged views on international issues, in particular the impact of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
On the institutional front, Eliane Tillieux and her host discussed the strengthening of parliamentary cooperation between their institutions through friendship and working visits, the sharing of experiences, immersion courses and the revitalisation of friendship groups.
The two personalities dwelt on the devastating effects of political instability and terrorism in French-speaking West Africa.
Adama Bictogo and Eliane Tillieux acknowledged the decisive role that parliamentarians can play in the face of all these scourges in a spirit of solidarity.
Mr. Bictogo invited his Belgian counterpart to pay a friendly working visit to Côte d’Ivoire. The delegation of Ivorian MPs will be in Brussels from 25 to 27 January 2024.
Adama Bictogo is leading a delegation of MPs from various parliamentary groups: Mabri Toikeusse (RHDP, ruling party), Anoblé Miézan Félix (RHDP), Gaully Sahoua Antoine (PDCI, opposition), Sehi Gaspard (PPA-CI, opposition) and Dah Sansan Tilkouette (member of the Bureau of the Assemblée parlementaire de la Francophonie (APF)).
