During a recent press briefing, Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, urged citizens to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the virus.
The Minister confirmed the identification of two cases of M-Pox in the Western Area, prompting the government to declare a public health emergency. He emphasized that while the government is well-equipped to manage the outbreak, public cooperation is crucial in containing its spread.
To this end, Minister Bah urged citizens to be aware of the common symptoms of M-Pox, which include the development of skin rashes on various parts of the body, such as the belly, chest, face, and hands. Individuals experiencing these symptoms or any other concerning signs are advised to contact the Ministry of Health immediately by calling the dedicated hotline at 117.
The Ministry of Health is actively responding to the outbreak by providing medical care to confirmed cases at Connaught Hospital and implementing robust contact tracing measures to identify and monitor individuals who may have come into contact with infected persons.
Minister Bah emphasized the importance of maintaining good hygiene practices, such as regular handwashing and minimizing physical contact, to prevent the spread of the virus. He assured the public that the government is closely monitoring the situation and taking all necessary steps to ensure the safety and well-being of all citizens.
