Following the victory of Republican candidate Donald Trump, international leaders were quick to react to the news, offering their congratulations and expressing their hope for the strengthening of diplomatic relations.
In his message, the Moroccan sovereign expressed his sincere congratulations to Mr Trump on his election to a new term as president of the United States, and his best wishes for full success in his high office and in his efforts to serve the American people.
King Mohammed VI stressed that Mr Trump’s resounding victory in these elections is a recognition of his patriotism and a confirmation of his continued commitment to defending the supreme interests of the United States, “our long-standing friend and ally.”
In this context, the King reaffirmed that the Kingdom of Morocco and the United States of America are united by a historic alliance and strategic partnership that has stood the test of time, adding that “our shared values and common interests in a wide range of fields have enabled us to work together continuously to build a better future for our peoples, making our relations a driving force for peace, security and prosperity in the Middle East, Africa and beyond.”
In the message, the King recalled that during Mr Trump’s previous administration, bilateral relations reached an unprecedented level when the United States of America recognised the full and complete sovereignty of the Kingdom of Morocco over all of its Sahara, claiming that this memorable act, for which the Moroccan people will be forever grateful, was a milestone and a pivotal moment that reflected the true depth of “our special and centuries-old relationship, which holds out the prospect of even greater cooperation and a broader strategic partnership.”
“As we face increasingly complex regional and global challenges, the Kingdom of Morocco will be more than ever a true friend and loyal ally of the United States,” the Moroccan sovereign wrote, reiterating his firm determination to work with Trump “to further promote our common interests and consolidate our unique alliance at all levels of cooperation.”
