Spain has highly praised King Mohammed VI’s efforts to promote Morocco’s progress and foster regional stability, Spanish Prime Minister and Secretary General of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE), Pedro Sanchez, said in Rabat over the weekend.
Speaking to the press on the sidelines of the International Socialist Congress, Sanchez praised the strong relations between Morocco and Spain, describing them as “two brotherly and neighbouring nations that share projects and a similar vision on global and societal challenges.”
“These ties of cooperation, fraternity and friendship are essential to enable both societies to achieve their aspirations effectively and equitably,” he noted.
Regarding Morocco’s relations with the European Union, Sanchez stressed Spain’s role as a gateway for Morocco as a strategic partner in European political projects. He reiterated Madrid’s unwavering support for a strategic partnership between Rabat and Brussels, stressing the mutual benefits of a win-win approach.
Turning to current challenges, Sanchez underlined the crucial role of socialist forces in promoting an inclusive social vision that values diversity.
“Regrettably, reactionary rhetoric is becoming more prevalent in our societies. It is therefore crucial to develop strategies that transcend national borders and strengthen the bonds of brotherhood between governments and parties,” said Sanchez, who chaired the Congress in his capacity as leader of the PSOE.
The Congress, held in Rabat on Saturday and Sunday under the theme “Progressive Solutions for a Changing World,” brought together representatives of Social Democratic, Socialist and Workers’ Parties from across the Socialist International.
Delegates will discuss topics such as “Radicalization, Peace and the Promotion of Human Security,” “The Future Pact as a Tool for a New Internationalism,” and “The Socio-Economic Impact of Climate Change and Natural Disasters.”
