A strategic agreement aimed at coordinating the actions of public authorities to set up a Sustainable Gas Infrastructure Development Programme was signed in Rabat.
This protocol, involving several ministries and five public bodies and companies, is part of Morocco’s ongoing commitment to its energy sovereignty, the decarbonisation of its economy and regional and
global connectivity.
It aims to accelerate the implementation of a multi-year programme to establish import points for liquefied natural gas, as well as storage and transport infrastructure.
In the short term, it supports the development of gas pipelines linking domestic gas production areas to consumers, the construction of an LNG terminal at the port of Nador West Med and a gas pipeline to
link it to the Maghreb Europe Gas Pipeline.
This programme will also promote the deployment of renewable energies and the development of Morocco’s green hydrogen supply, as well as the Africa-Atlantic gas pipeline project.
