The Regional Center for Disease Surveillance and Control (CRSCM-ECOWAS) has issued a warning about the escalating situation.
Nigeria is leading the region in terms of case numbers, followed by Côte d’Ivoire, Liberia, and Ghana. However, the overall African picture is even more alarming, with over 37,000 cases and 1,400 deaths reported across 15 countries. The Democratic Republic of Congo remains the epicenter of the outbreak, accounting for the vast majority of cases and fatalities.
Compared to the same period in 2023, cases and deaths have surged by 160% and 19%, respectively. To address this crisis, the CRSCM-ECOWAS is urging countries to strengthen public awareness campaigns, enhance surveillance systems, improve healthcare responses, and foster regional cooperation. The organization also emphasizes the importance of accurate reporting to fully grasp the extent of the outbreak.
