The ADF rebels currently operate in the eastern DRC.
“Our main interest is to dislodge the ADF. We cannot keep ADF in DRC. We cannot harbour ADF in Eastern Congo. Uganda is ready to help,” Museveni said on Monday.
In his response, Tshisekedi promised to work with Uganda to resolve the ADF menace, saying, “We will settle the matter jointly.”
According to a statement from the Ugandan presidency, the two leaders met in Addis Ababa at the conclusion of the 32nd Summit of African Union Heads of State.
Museveni was meeting Tshisekedi for the first time after his election as DRC leader and congratulated him on his victory in the December 2018 elections.
“Elections are dangerous if not handled carefully. To hold a successful election, one must be morally on the right” Museveni said.
According to the statement Tshisekedi asked Museveni to back him as he seeks to build a broad government, which will work for the economic success and political stability of the DR Congo.
The two leaders also discussed the issue of the Ebola outbreak in Eastern Congo, with Uganda’s Health Ministry Permanent Secretary, Dr. Diana Atwiine, indicating that the threat had been controlled.
