APA – Kigali (Rwanda) – Ugandan first son of President Yoweli Kaguta Museveni who is also his senior presidential advisor, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba is currently in Rwanda to celebrate his 49th birthday.
Kainerugaba is also expected to meet President Paul Kagame, an official source confirmed to APA Monday.
His trip comes just days after he hosted a thanksgiving event held in Kabale district in southwestern Uganda where citizens of both countries met to celebrate the resumption of vibrant activity at Gatuna Border Post.
Muhoozi’s 49th birthday will be first hosted on the Rwandan side according to a previous announcement by the Ugandan General.
Speaking on his previous 48th birthday celebration, Muhoozi said much as he enjoys private life, he decided to share his celebrations with the public to thank God for the re-opening of the Rwanda-Uganda border that had been closed for three years.
”As a country, we were experiencing bad relations with our brotherly neighbours, Rwanda. People were suffering because they were not doing business and they could not visit families and friends across the border. This was a big problem,” he said.
A military man for almost a quarter of a century, Muhoozi has spent nearly his entire military career guarding his father.
He was instrumental in developing the Special Forces Command (SFC), the semi-autonomous military unit that protects Mr. Museveni.
He raised controversy late last year after he tweeted jokingly that Ugandan ground forces under his command would capture Nairobi within a very short time.
Many Kenyans had taken exception to the tweet, prompting his father to apologise on his behalf and subsequently demoted him.
