Despite the warning from the Federal Government and the Nigeria Police Force against holding any national protests across the country, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Tuesday held peaceful protests across the country in support of the prolonged strike by the university workers.
Reports from the 36 states of Nigeria said that the protests were peaceful and that there were no reported cases of hijack of the protests by hoodlums.
According to local media reports, the protests were peaceful in all the 36 states of the country and that the residents of the Federal Capital Territory of Abuja would join their counterparts for the protests on Wednesday.
The two-day nationwide protests, organized by the NLC was in support of the strike by the University workers, which started since February this year over demands for improved working conditions and provision of essential facilities, including research programmes.
