APA-Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire) Monday, February 12, 2024 has been declared a public holiday following the victory of the Elephants of Côte d’Ivoire over the Super Eagles of Nigeria (2-1) in Sunday’s ,Africa Cup of Nations final.
“Normally, the whole of tomorrow will be a paid holiday. And as I said, never two without three,” Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara told the local press, congratulating the winning team for their third title of the tournament.
“We’re African champions, what happiness. Well done to our Elephants. Thank you for this third star offered to the Nation,” President Ouattara wrote on his Facebook page.
Côte d’Ivoire, the host country of the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AfCON) organised the prestigious tournament for the second time in the country’s history, following the 1984 edition.
The Elephants won the AfCON held in Senegal in 1992, before lifting the trophy in 2015 and
2023.
