APA-Pretoria (South Africa) President Cyril Ramaphosa on Wednesday officially removed Busisiwe Mkhwebane from her position as South Africa’s Ombudsman following recommendations from parliament.
In a statement, Ramaphosa’s spokesperson Vincent Magwenya said the president had decided to remove “Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane from the Office of the Public Protector on the grounds of misconduct and incompetence.”
“The removal of Advocate Mkhwebane, follows the National Assembly (NA) debate and vote on the Section 194 committee report, which found Adv. Mkhwebane to have misconducted herself and that she was incompetent,” Magwenya said.
The National Assembly on Monday voted 318 to 43 for her removal from office, achieving the required two-thirds majority.
This followed a long impeachment process, which culminated last month in several findings against her.
A parliamentary committee found her guilty of misconduct and incompetence and recommended her removal.
