Health authorities in Rwanda have closed down a major hospital in the capital Kigali over allegedly poor services to its clients, APA can report on Monday.
The Baho International Hospital, one of the most renowned private clinics in the city was ordered to shut down following the recent death of a patient which triggered an investigation.
The health facility has been the subject to recurrent complaints since June by the public who alleged poor service delivery, unsatisfactory hygiene measures, and at least one case of misdiagnosis.
The most recent at the hospital emerged about a week and a half ago, when the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) arrested two of its doctors as part of investigations into the death of a female patient who passed away on Thursday, September 9, after checking in for minor surgery.
The death was a result of a simple family planning procedure which turned fatal, prompting the ministry to put in place a joint investigative to unravel the alleged clinical malpractice.
The team consisted of nine individuals who started their investigations on September 10, 2021 and were expected to provide a comprehensive report in five working days, it said.
Rwanda’s Health minister, Dr. Daniel Ngamije, confirmed the closure of the private clinic.
“In the coming days, we shall offer a communication on not only the closure of Baho International Hospital but to all private health facilities requesting them to comply with the standards as well as requesting them to up the quality of their services” the minister said.
