Twitter, which is now known as X, has paid off the staff it sacked in Accra, the African headquarters of the company over a year ago after they were laid off, according to the agency which represents the company.
The staffers, who laid off in November 2022 had threatened to take X to court for failing to pay the redundancy money they said they were promised.
It was gathered that X had previously said that it had paid ex-employees in full.
According to local media reports, Elon Musk, who took over the company in 2022, embarked on a massive global cull of employees, sacking more than 6,000 people, claiming that he had been losing over $4m a day.
The reports quoted the agency, Seven Seven, the company providing legal representation to the staff, as saying that it had been successful in its quest to get a redundancy settlement and repatriation expenses for foreign staff, although it did not specify the amount of the pay-out.
The reports added that Carla Olympio from Agency Seven Seven told the BBC that “they are very pleased to finally be able to get their due, put this behind them and look to the future”.
