South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has been appraised of the country’s electronic-visa system set up to improve immigration operations when he visited the country’s immigration offices on Friday.
The aim of the system is to improve the processing of visas in an attempt to encourage investment, boost tourism and attract skilled labour to the country, according to the president.
Visiting the Ministry of Affairs in Pretoria, Ramaphosa interacted with the ministry’s senior officials who showed him various activities at the office, including its call centre.
Business people and potential investors from non-SADC (Southern African Development Community) states in Africa and overseas have complained to the president over the cumbersome procedures required to secure visas to enter South Africa.
The president, however, has assured them his country was working on easing the red tape to attract the investors and business into the country.
