A high-powered South African delegation is in Malawi to attend a four-day Southern African Development Community Parliamentary Forum’s (SADC PF) session that ends on Thursday, APA has learnt.
Led by the Chief Whip of the National Council of Provinces, Seiso Mohai, the South Africans are attending the 51st Plenary Assembly Session of the SADC PF.
South African parliament spokesperson Moloto Mothapo said the SADC PF prides itself “in being the flag-bearer of democratisation and socio-economic development through harmonising and synchronising laws and policies in the region.”
“It is the first inter-parliamentary association with an organ dedicated to monitoring the domestication of laws and international treaties in the form of the Regional Parliamentary Model Laws Oversight Committee,” Mothapo said.
This plenary session is being jointly hosted by SADC PF and Malawi’s parliament.
Mothapo said the assembly’s agenda would include consideration and adoption of the Draft SADC Model Law on Public Financial Management as well as a review of Executive Committee Reports and Members’ Motions.
“Other plenary objectives and expected outcomes include the promotion of solidarity and inter-parliamentary cohesion among member parliaments,” he said.
South Africa is expected to host the 52nd plenary assembly session of the forum next year, Mothapo said.
Mohai is accompanied by lawmakers Desmond Lawrence Moela, Nkhensani Kate Bilankulu, Darren Bergman and Ntombovuyo Mente.
