Saudi Arabia has reiterated its support for Morocco’s territorial integrity at the 14th session of the Moroccan-Saudi Joint Committee, held in Mecca on Thursday..
The Saudi Kingdom affirmed its unwavering support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara and reaffirmed that Morocco’s autonomy plan is the only viable solution to end the ongoing regional conflict.
During the Joint Committee meeting, Saudi Arabia expressed its continued support for the autonomy initiative, stressing that it is the exclusive basis for resolving the dispute while respecting Morocco’s national unity and territorial integrity. The Saudi government also insisted that any solution to this regional conflict must be considered under Morocco’s sovereignty.
Saudi Arabia welcomed the major initiatives launched by King Mohammed VI for the development of Africa, including the Atlantic Initiative for the Sahel, which seeks to facilitate access to the Atlantic Ocean for landlocked Sahel countries.
The Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline Project, an ambitious project to transport natural gas from Nigeria to Morocco and other countries in Africa and Europe, was also mentioned. The project, announced in 2016, involves the construction of a 5,600-kilometer pipeline, with the aim of improving access to energy, promoting economic development and strengthening regional integration.
Saudi Arabia also recognized the leadership role of King Mohammed VI in promoting sustainable development in Africa, as well as strengthening peace, security and stability on the continent.
Finally, Saudi Arabia welcomed the commitment of King Mohammed VI to the Palestinian cause, as well as his support for the preservation of the cultural identity of Al-Quds and its symbolic status as a place of tolerance and coexistence between the Abrahamic religions.
