As part of the implementation of its roadmap, the head of the Confederation of Sahel States (AES) announced that the new AES passports will be in circulation by January 29, 2025.
While the new AES passports will be out, the old travel documents will remain valid until their expiration
date.
AES citizens holding old passports will be able to have them replaced with the new passports in accordance with the rules in force.
The chair of the AES, General Assimi Goïta, reassures the populations that all useful measures will be taken to guarantee the effectiveness of the free movement of people and goods within the confederal space.
This decision is part of the implementation of the AES roadmap aimed at facilitating the free movement of citizens.
The release of the new AES passports coincides with the expiry of the deadline for AES countries to leave the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Although the old passports remain valid, AES citizens will be able to replace them with the new ones in accordance with the rules.
