The President of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, signed the decree setting Monday, December 2, 2024 as the opening date of the first ordinary session of the new legislature, according to a statement from the Presidency.
This announcement comes after the Constitutional Council proclaimed, on Wednesday, the final results of the early legislative elections held on November 17, 2024.
The Constitutional Council confirmed the big victory of the Pastef party, which won 130 seats out of 165 in Parliament.
This victory consolidates the position of the political party led by the current Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko, as the main force within the National Assembly. The Takku Wallu Senegal coalition, led by former President Macky Sall, won 16 seats. For its part, Jam Ak Njerign, led by former Prime Minister Amadou Ba, won seven deputies.
