South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit n Wednesday presided over the swearing into office of new ministers, enjoining them to meet the expectations of citizens.
The new additions to the cabinet are justice minister Dr. Wek Mamer, education minister, Dr. Kuyok Abol Kuyok, and Atong Kuol Manyang the new head of the trade and industry ministry.
“We have come to a stage where we should now establish a strong government to serve the people, go ahead with your work”, Kiir told the new members of the cabinet.
Kiir’s senior adviser Kuol Manyang Juuk exhorted them to improve performance in their respective ministries while Cabinet Affairs Minister Dr. Martin Elia Lomuro urged cooperation amongst government departments.
The swearing-in at State House in Juba comes amid tension in the country over last week’s unrest in Upper Nile State between the military and fighters of the White Army who had attacked a base in the region.
First vice-president Riek Machar, who is part of a unity government with old foe Kiir is seen as a firmer ally of the militia.
