APA-Rabat (Morocco) This action became possible after the Spanish government ratified an agreement on the exchange of driving licences between the two countries.
Faced with an urgent need for professional truck and bus drivers, Spanish road transport companies are considering recruiting Moroccan drivers.
According to the Thursdy edition of the daily ‘Al Ahdath Al Maghribia’, associations of lorry owners in Spain have
announced their intention to recruit 26,000 professional Moroccan drivers.
This move comes at a time when the Iberian government, faced with a shortage of human resources in this area, has authorised Moroccan drivers to drive on Spanish roads with their Moroccan licences, without the need to convert them.
Previously, the Spanish authorities required Moroccan drivers to pass theoretical and practical tests in order to obtain licences to drive trucks with a single trailer (Category C) and trailer lorries (Category C+E).
During his recent visit to Morocco, the head of the Spanish government, Pedro Sanchez, officially ratified an agreement on the exchange of driving licences between the two countries, in recognition of the pressing need for manpower in the road transport sector in Spain.
This shortage has led Spanish companies to turn to foreign drivers, particularly from countries such as Switzerland, Monaco and Andorra, and soon from Morocco.
According to the publication, this agreement will help to improve the working conditions of professional Moroccan drivers, particularly in a booming sector such as commercial transport between Morocco and Spain.
This transport involves goods, passengers, agricultural and food products, as well as daily commercial exchanges.
This agreement on the exchange of driving licences is therefore of strategic importance to both countries.
