The National Assembly has given the green light to maintain the state of emergency in the Savanes region of Togo for another 12 months.
Faced with persistent security threats in the Savanes region, the Togolese National Assembly adopted this Thursday, in plenary session, the bill authorising the extension of the state of security emergency for a period of 12 months, starting on March 13, 2025, the Togolese parliament announced on its Facebook page.
This decision was taken by an absolute majority by the deputies of the first legislature of the Fifth Republic, it is specified.
This new extension aims to allow the government to adapt its response to changes in the security threat, to strengthen the protection of citizens and their property, as well as to preserve public order and the integrity of the national territory, specifies the Togolese legislative power.
The last extension of the state of security emergency, adopted on March 12, 2024, will expire on March 13, 2025 at midnight.
This extension aims to ensure continuity in the efforts made by the authorities to guarantee security and stability in the Savanes region.
