Tunisian president, Kaïs Saïed, has appointed Kamel Madouri, currently Minister of Social Affairs, as the new head of government, replacing Ahmed Hachani.
The announcement was made on Wednesday evening by the Tunisian news agency TAP, just two months before the presidential elections scheduled for October 6.
Born in Téboursouk on January 25, 1974, Madouri was recently appointed Minister of Social Affairs in a partial government reshuffle on May 25.
Prior to this appointment, he held key positions including President of the National Health Insurance Fund (CNAM) and Chairman and CEO of the (National House for Pensions and Social Security Fund (CNRPS).
Married with three children, Mr. Madouri holds a postgraduate doctorate in European Community Law and Maghreb-European Relations, as well as a master’s degree in Legal Sciences from the Faculty of Law, Political and Social Sciences of Tunis 2.
He also graduated from ENA and the National Defense Institute in 2015.
Kamel Madouri was a member of the National Council for Social Dialogue and Vice-Chairman of the Social Protection Subcommittee. He has served on the boards of several national institutions, including the Charles Nicolle Public Health Institute and the General Insurance Authority.
In addition to his administrative duties, Mr. Madouri has taught at ENA and the Higher Institute of Internal Security Forces. He is the author of several publications on the coordination of social security systems, the social protection of migrant workers, the portability of social rights and the reform of health insurance and pensions.
Between February 2023 and May 2024, he headed the CNAM and was also Director General of Social Security at the Ministry of Social Affairs. An expert in Community Law, Institutional Law, International Relations and the common policies of the European Union, he has been a permanent member of various joint Tunisian-foreign social security commissions.
Madouri’s appointment comes at a time of political, economic and social crisis in Tunisia. His expertise in social security and international relations will be crucial in addressing the challenges facing the country, strengthening its institutions and improving governance.
