The United Arab Emirates on Tuesday donated 50 tonnes of food to Zimbabwe to feed thousands of families facing starvation in the southern African country.
UAE ambassador to Zimbabwe, Jassim Muhammad al Qasimi, said the food would contribute to efforts to meet the needs of thousands of families and vulnerable groups such as women, children and the elderly.
“Sending food items to the Republic of Zimbabwe reflects the strong relations between our two nations and demonstrates the humanitarian role played by the UAE to support African countries and alleviate the humanitarian crises they face,” al Qasimi said.
UAE has over the past two years intensified its humanitarian assistance to Africa, with Zimbabwe being one of the first countries to benefit from medical assistance by Abu Dhabi to combat COVID-19.
This saw more than 8,000 Zimbabwean healthcare workers benefitting from assistance to strengthen their efforts to contain the spread of the virus.
