UNICEF has expressed grave concerns about proposed reductions in international aid funding, warning that these cuts could severely impact its ability to provide essential support to millions of vulnerable children worldwide.
The agency highlighted the alarming trend of declining contributions for the second consecutive year, emphasizing that these cuts come at a time when children’s needs are greater than ever.
UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell cautioned, “These reductions will significantly impede our capacity to reach millions of vulnerable children who depend on us for healthcare, vaccines, education, and protection from conflict.”
Despite significant progress in reducing child mortality rates since 2000, UNICEF, which relies entirely on voluntary donations, warns that this funding crisis could jeopardize past achievements and endanger millions more children.
“If these cuts continue, many children may not receive the assistance they need to survive and thrive,” Russell added.
UNICEF urges donors to maintain their support for vital programs, emphasizing the critical need to continue assisting these vulnerable children.
