APA-Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Ethiopia’s women’s national team, otherwise known as the Lucy beat their Chadian counterpart by six goals to nil.
In the 2024 Paris Olympic women’s football Africa zone qualifier the Ethiopian women’s national team welcomed Chad at home in the first of their two leg-legged tie.
The Lucy dominated the game, scoring three goals in each half. Messay Temesgen gave the lead to the Lucy’s with a well-taken 13th-minute header.
Aregash Kalsa slotted the second in the 24th minute with long chip shot and Nardos Getnet added the third two minutes later.
In the second half, Aregash scored her second goal of the match in the 62nd minute. Rediet Asresahegn and Neybony Yien took the scoreline to half a dozen in the last ten minutes of the match.
The results gave the Lucy’s a commanding lead over Chad to progress to the second round of the women’s Olympic qualifiers. The two teams will face off again on Sunday at Abebe Bikila Stadium.
The aggregate winner will play Nigeria in the second round of the tournament which will be played between October 23 and31.
