After collecting 175 billion CFA francs, the Patriotic Support Fund (FSP) held the 4th ordinary session
of its Orientation Council in Burkina Faso on Tuesday.
As of December 30, 2024, approximately 175 billion CFA francs have been collected for the Patriotic Support Fund (FSP), an instrument intended to finance the fight against terrorism.
This amount represents a mobilization rate of more than 116 percent, compared to the revised target of 150 billion CFA francs, indicated the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
The government explained that tax levies are the main source with 77.1 billion CFA francs, or 46.3 percent of the total. The local development mining fund comes in second with 24.2 billion CFA francs, followed by deductions from public salaries with 23.3 billion CFA francs and levies on telecommunications with 20.7 billion CFA francs.
According to the Ministry of Economy, voluntary contributions and deductions from private salaries remain marginal, representing 3.5 and 3.6 billion CFA francs respectively. Voluntary salary transfer closes the ranks with 1.4 billion CFA francs.
The FSP was set up in January 2023 to respond to emergencies and support the national counterterrorism strategy.
For several years, Burkina has been facing a jihadist insurgency.
According to the Global Terrorism Index of the Institute of Economics and Peace (IEP) based in Sydney, Australia, Burkina is the country most affected by terrorism in 2023 after occupying second place the previous year during which the country experienced two coups in the space of eight months.
Before the Legislative Assembly of the Transition, Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo, the Prime Minister of Faso assured citizens that the Combatant Forces have recovered 70% of the national territory.
“The current rate that is periodically assessed by the intelligence agency is around 70.59 percent,” the Prime Minister said, adding that efforts are being made on the ground to accentuate this trend. “This is an assessment that is dynamic and for some time now, we have been witnessing an intensification of the actions of the combat forces,” he said.
The prime minister stressed that his Government will strengthen the rise of the combat forces and their firepower in the theater of operations.
To do this, he intends to optimize the intelligence system to enable it to intensify operations to reconquer and secure the national territory.
