APA – N’Djamena (Chad) – For the Chadian government allegations of playing a role in the Sudanese crisis tend to sully its international reputation.
Following a report by the Qatari news channel, repeated by other media, on Chad’s “alleged support” for one of the warring parties to the Sudanese conflict, the Chadian Foreign Ministry has denied any role in the crisis.
In a press release published on 24 April, Ibrahim Adam Mahamat, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, formally denied the claims.
For N’Djamena, the claim is simply “false” and could damage the country’s international image.
The spokesman reminded the media tempted to spread this kind of information that the most authoritative diplomatic source is Foreign Minister Mahamat Saleh Annadif who is open to inquiries by journalists.
While deploring the ongoing situation in Sudan, the Foreign Ministry stressed the urgency of a peaceful resolution and called on the warring sides to favour the path of peace.
Sudan has been rocked by violence since 15 April.
The regular army is facing off against the Rapid Special Forces, a paramilitary group led by deputy transitional leader General Mohamed Hamdan Dagolo.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), more than 400 people have been killed in the fighting, which is concentrated in Khartoum.
Confusion reigns on the ground at the moment due to the communication war between the two sides.
