As Chad prepares for the rehabilitation of Hassan Djamous International Airport (IHDN), the Ministry of Transport, Civil Aviation, and National Meteorology, in partnership with RAZEL Chad, has launched a comprehensive safety study to assess risks and ensure the continuity of flight operations.
Preparatory meetings, held from March 11th to 15th, 2025, and officially opened by the Ministry’s Secretary General, Dihoulne Laurent, are being conducted in accordance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards.
The primary goal of these sessions is to identify potential hazards associated with the rehabilitation work and to develop mitigation measures to maintain a high level of safety throughout the project. Experts and stakeholders are analyzing the severity and likelihood of risks, working to create a risk assessment matrix for proactive vulnerability management.
A key priority is ensuring that flight operations continue uninterrupted during the construction phase. The preliminary study will assess the impact of the modifications on flight safety and define measures to protect facilities and maintain smooth airport operations.
The authorities aim to develop an effective operational and technical approach, culminating in concrete recommendations and sustainable security solutions.
The Ministry of Transport and its partners are committed to modernizing Chad’s airport infrastructure while enhancing the safety and performance of the aviation sector, contributing to the country’s attractiveness on the international stage.
