APA – N’djamena (Chad) The transitional authorities said it was the work of two rebel groups.
Two Chadian rebel groups have attempted to enter national territory from the north of the country. The incursion was attempted on 31 May from the Kouri Bougoudi area, a gold mining site.
In a statement issued on 1 June, government spokesman Aziz Mahamat Saleh said that the attackers were elements of the rebel groups Military Command Council for the Salvation of the Republic (CCSMR) and National Front for Democracy and Justice (FNDJ). The Chadian army succeeded in intercepting this colony.
The government’s provisional assessment of the confrontation suggests that the attackers suffered serious material losses. An armoured vehicle and a transport vehicle, both equipped with 12.7mm guns, were recovered, and a vehicle carrying war materiel was damaged.
Four attackers were wounded, one killed and 16 captured. There were no casualties among the regular armed forces, according to the government.
This is the first armed incursion officially recognised by the government since the one on 11 April 2021 by the Front pour l’Alternance et la Concorde au Tchad (FACT), which led to the death of President Idriss Déby Itno. In August 2022, the transitional government signed a peace agreement with the politico-military groups for a ceasefire. This agreement was not signed by the CCMSR and FNDJT groups.
