Chinese Ambassador Yin Chengwu and Liberia’s Minister of National Defense, Hon. Geraldine Janet George, jointly inspected the China-Aid Project of National Clinical Diagnosis and Treatment Laboratory in Liberia on May 15th.
This inspection underscores the strong bilateral cooperation between China and Liberia, particularly in the health sector.
Ambassador Yin Chengwu emphasized that the ongoing project is a tangible demonstration of China’s commitment to implementing agreements reached during the meeting between the two heads of state and the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Beijing Summit. He highlighted the initiative as a significant achievement in advancing practical cooperation between the two nations and urged the construction team to prioritize safety, ensure timely, high-quality completion, and further contribute to the development of China-Liberia relations. The National Clinical Diagnosis and Treatment Laboratory, which broke ground in December 2024, is part of a broader Chinese effort to modernize Liberia’s healthcare facilities, with the laboratory itself expected to open in late 2025.
Defense Minister George expressed Liberia’s deep appreciation for the project. She pledged the Liberian government’s full support to coordinate effectively with the Chinese construction team, ensuring that the initiative aligns seamlessly with Liberia’s “ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development” (AIID). The AIID, launched in January 2025, is Liberia’s new national development plan (2025-2029) and aims to transform the country’s economy, infrastructure, and public services.
The project manager provided an update on the construction progress, reaffirming the team’s commitment to accelerating the work in accordance with the project requirements. This collaboration highlights China’s ongoing support for Liberia’s development priorities, particularly in strengthening its healthcare infrastructure and capacity.
