Chad inaugurated its first Senate on March 7, 2025.
In a ceremonial event brimming with emotion and recognition, the 46 senators elected on February 25, alongside the 23 senators appointed by the President on March 4, officially assumed their roles.
Dr. Haroun Kabadi, who previously served as Speaker of the National Assembly for 14 years, was elected by consensus as the inaugural president of Chad’s Senate. Recognized as a pivotal figure in the ongoing transition, he is regarded as a crucial member of the current administration.
In his inaugural address, Dr. Kabadi commended the enduring spirit of the Chadian people and expressed his appreciation to President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno for his appointment to the Senate, as well as to his fellow senators for their confidence in him.
“This moment represents yet another call from the nation. I assure you that I will not fall short of your expectations. I have devoted myself fully to Chad, and in return, my country has provided me with so much. Therefore, I will continue to serve our nation,” he affirmed.
