The arrests follow an investigation that uncovered alleged financial misconduct by the company’s leadership. The Deputy Public Prosecutor reportedly found evidence of irregularities in a management contract awarded to a foreign construction company for a project in southern Libya.
Prosecutors allege the company directors bypassed financial regulations and disbursed $2.8 million to the contractor despite incomplete work. This, according to the investigation, resulted in a significant loss of public funds.
Citing the need to protect public assets and combat corruption, the investigator recommended detaining the accused. Prosecutor General Al-Sour concurred, authorizing their pre-trial custody.
