Niger will officially begin implementing the resolutions of the National Renovation Conference on March 25th, marking a significant step in the country’s political transition.
The ceremony will launch key recommendations, including a five-year transition period and the adoption of a new constitutional charter.
The Ministry of the Interior, Public Security, and Territorial Administration will host the official ceremony at the Mahatma Gandhi Center in Niamey, following the submission of the conference’s final report to General Abdourahamane Tiani, President of the National Council for the Safeguarding of the Homeland (CNSP), on March 10th.
Governors across Niger have been directed to facilitate regional representation at the event to establish a 60-month restructuring period, end the existence of current political parties, implement a charter aligned with Niger’s “socio-cultural realities.”
The preliminary draft of the Re-Foundation Charter, obtained by APA, will serve as the new constitutional framework, repealing previous ordinances. It outlines fundamental values, the missions of new institutions, and the structure of governance bodies.
The conference also recommended elevating General Tiani to the rank of Army General, recognizing his “historic role” in the country’s transformation.
According to the conference conclusions, General Abdourahamane Tiani will assume the role of President of the Republic of Niger for the next five years. This decision solidifies his leadership during the transition period.
General Tiani described the report presentation as “a milestone in a journey that began in 2023 in Agadez,” emphasizing the importance of the inclusive process.
The new institutional framework will establish governance bodies, including the CNSP, the Transformation Government, and the Transformation Advisory Council (CCR).
This launch occurs nearly two years after the military takeover, which has reshaped Niger’s regional and international relations, leading to shifts in alliances and partnerships.
