The Ghanaian press on Wednesday focuses on the launch of an initiative to manage plastic waste in the country by President Nana Akufo-Addo.
The Daily Graphic reports that “National Plastic Action Partnership (NPAP)” has been introduced to change the game of waste management in the country, which is faced with tonnes of plastic of waste to manage.
The aim of the programme is to change the orientation towards how plastic waste was treated to a more environmentally friendly manner, where value would be added to plastic waste.
The partnership is on record as the first in Africa, after Indonesia, is a collaboration between the government of Ghana and the World Economic Forum, under its Global Plastic Action Partnership (GPAP), and other stakeholders.
The GPAP is founded by Coca Cola, Pepsi Cola, Nestle and the government of Canada and United Kingdom and hosted by the World Economic Forum.
It was formed to create a world free of pollution and ensure that plastics are manufactured, used and re-used in a sustainable way.
Ghana has been selected as the first African country to join the partnership owing to similarities it has in its aim to combat plastic waste.
Meanwhile, both the Daily Graphic and Ghanaian Times focused attention on the denial by the government that it has no intention to introduce comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) into the basic schools curriculum.
