“I would like to congratulate the Coalition PASTEF on its victory in the legislative elections held on Sunday, November 17, 2024,” stated Sall, who served as President of Senegal from 2012 to 2024. Acknowledging the principle of popular sovereignty, he emphasized that the election further affirms the country’s commitment to “republican values and democracy, which are the foundations of our social cohesion and coexistence.”
The former president also expressed gratitude to all voters for their participation, particularly those who supported the list he shared with nonagenarian Abdoulaye Wade, his predecessor. “I want to thank all my compatriots—men, women, young people from both urban and rural areas, as well as the diaspora—and I deeply appreciate everyone who cast their votes for the list I had the honor of leading,” he remarked, reiterating that Senegal represents “a great people, a great nation.”
Before Macky Sall, other opposition figures, including former Prime Minister Amadou Ba and Dakar Mayor Barthelemy Dias, also congratulated PASTEF for its strong performance in the elections.
