In a tweet posted on Wednesday, November 20, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, leader of France Insoumise, praised the PASTEF party’s triumph in the Senegalese legislative elections held on November 17, viewing it as more than just an electoral outcome.
“A significant victory for PASTEF in the legislative elections in Senegal,” Mélenchon stated, congratulating “the Senegalese people who listened to their own voices and delivered a lesson in freedom to the entire world.”
Mélenchon, who co-hosted a conference with Ousmane Sonko at the University of Dakar last May, emphasized that Sunday’s election transcends national boundaries and represents an act of popular sovereignty. “A new phase of Senegal’s citizen revolution is underway,” he concluded, reaffirming his strong support for Sonko’s political movement.
According to preliminary results, PASTEF has indeed won the majority of seats in the National Assembly.
