Burkina Faso’s President, Captain Ibrahim Traoré is urging social cohesion in his precarious country.
Performing Eid al-Fitr prayers on Friday in a working-class district of Ouagadougou, Capain Traore used the occasion to call on the Burkinabè people to strengthen social cohesion in pursuit of peace, stability and prosperity.
Following the prayers marking the end of Ramadan, the head of state extended his greetings to Muslim worshippers after a month devoted to devotion and solidarity.
Captain Traoré also paid tribute to the country’s fighting forces engaged on the frontlines.
“My thoughts and prayers go first to our combat forces who are fighting day and night, from east to west and from north to south of Burkina Faso, so that our homeland stands firm and upholds the ideals of freedom, independence and sovereignty,” he said.
He further offered prayers for the recovery of the wounded and the sick, as well as for the souls of those who have passed away.
At the continental level, the Burkinabè leader reiterated his call for African unity. “We also prayed for Africans. May God help them emerge from the darkness of ignorance and seek knowledge. It is at this cost that Africa will achieve peace, stability and development,” he added.
The president also extended his wishes to Catholic Christians, who are still observing Lent for a few more days.
