Chad’s Minister of Public Health and Prevention, Dr. Abdelmadjid Abderrahim, has visited the Dougi refugee camp in the eastern province of Ouaddaï following the outbreak of several cholera cases among Sudanese refugees.
The visit aimed to assessing the epidemiological situation and to coordinate an emergency response to curb the spread of the disease.
So far, 96 cholera cases have been recorded in the camp, including 56 recoveries and 4 deaths.
Dr.Abderrahim was joined by fellow ministers responsible for Social Affairs and Water, as well as the World Health Organization (WHO) representative in Chad.
The delegation visited the camp’s cholera isolation and treatment centre,and inspected several water supply points to evaluate their compliance with health and sanitation standards.
