The Egyptian and Chinese air forces have launched a multi-day joint exercise aimed at harmonising their operational methods and strengthening military cooperation.
Egypt and China initiated the joint air exercise “Eagles of Civilization 2026” on Saturday, August 22, with the participation of several multirole combat aircraft, the Egyptian armed forces spokesperson announced.
The manoeuvres are scheduled to continue for several days at various air bases across Egypt, although a detailed schedule has not yet been released.
The first phase includes theoretical lectures and practical sessions dedicated to harmonising the operational concepts used by the two air forces.
Joint flights are also planned to familiarize crews with each other’s procedures and improve their ability to operate in a coordinated manner.
Egyptian and Chinese military personnel will also participate in exercises involving the planning and execution of air operations.
According to the statement, these activities aim to facilitate the exchange of experience, enhance the skills of the participating forces, and improve their level of coordination. They should also
allow staffs and crews to compare their mission preparation and execution methods.
Egyptian authorities did not specify the number of aircraft and military personnel involved, the aircraft models used, or the exact nature of the scenarios. No details were provided regarding possible combat simulations, the use of air defence systems, or the participation of support, surveillance, and refuelling assets.
The military spokesperson presented these manoeuvres as part of a joint training program organized by the Egyptian armed forces with countries considered friendly and partner nations.
Cairo is increasing this type of exercise with various powers to diversify its cooperation, maintain the operational experience of its forces, and strengthen its international military relations.
Beyond their technical dimension, the manoeuvres demonstrate the development of defence relations between Egypt and China. The hosting of Chinese fighter jets at several Egyptian bases signals a rapprochement between the two countries, even though Cairo officially presents the exercise as professional training devoid of any message directed against a third party.
Its true significance, however, will depend on the level of integration achieved during the flights and the regularity of future joint activities.
