The Egyptian team has won its first U16 Women’s Afrobasket title, defeating Côte d’Ivoire 66-54 in the final in Kigali.
With this victory, both teams have secured their spots to represent Africa at the FIBA U17 Women’s World Cup 2026.
Egypt went undefeated throughout the tournament, showcasing a dominant performance in the final on Sunday, September 14, 2025. After a close first half, the Egyptians pulled away with a decisive 24-8 run in the third quarter.
Joudi Elsayed was a key player for Egypt, contributing 15 points and 7 rebounds. Teamwork was a major factor, with Elsayed, Fatma Abdalla, and Leila Eissa combining for 12 of the team’s 15 assists. Egypt also capitalized on Côte d’Ivoire’s 28 turnovers, converting them into 26 points.
Despite the loss, Jane Mary Diomande fought to keep Côte d’Ivoire in the game. Both teams will now advance to the World Cup, a major achievement for both nations. The championship was held in Kigali, Rwanda, from September 2 to 14, 2025.
