Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema has confirmed meeting Donald Trump Jr. on Sunday during the American businessman’s private vacation in Zambia in an encounter that underscored growing diplomatic and investment interest between Lusaka and Washington.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Hichilema said Trump Jr. expressed admiration for Zambia’s natural beauty, the warmth of its people and the country’s potential as a destination for US investment.
“We conveyed our warm regards to his father, US President @realDonaldTrump, and affirmed our commitment to fostering enhanced US–Zambia relations,” Hichilema wrote.
The visit comes amid heightened regional diplomacy, coinciding with the United States’ decision to skip the upcoming G20 summit hosted by South Africa.
While Trump Jr.’s trip was unofficial, the meeting was seen as a positive gesture that reflected Zambia’s rising profile as both a tourism hotspot and an emerging investment hub.
