Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov has begun a two-day visit to Maputo, where he will meet Mozambique’s foreign affairs minister, Maria Manuela Lucas, as the two sides seek to refresh political dialogue and cooperation.
Mozambique’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation said the working meeting scheduled for Thursday will focus on the “deepening and vitalization” of long-standing relations grounded in friendship, solidarity and cooperation.
The ministers are also expected to review the political, social and economic conditions in their respective countries and regions.
The trip, which runs through Friday, is described as taking place following an invitation issued by Lucas during her visit to Russia in July 2025.
Officials said the encounter will serve as a follow-up to that outreach and provide an updated platform for consultation between the two governments.
